Walking into the Masonic Auditorium for Architects’ The Sky, The Earth & All Between tour felt like returning to a familiar feeling I’d carried with me since first discovering them at Mayhem Festival, except amplified, sharpened, and even more visceral.
Starting off the night, HolyWatr surprised with a tight, atmospheric set that far surpassed any expectations I had going in—their live energy nowhere near matched by their recordings. ERRA followed, delivering on a long-held concert-daydream: I finally heard “Cure” and “Rumor of Light” live, and that debut lifted the show to another level. Their performance—I’d say “heavy AF,” but that hardly does it justice.
Opening with “Elegy” and “Whiplash,” Architects unleashed the exact emotional weight and precision that first made me fall for their music. The biggest highlight of the night had to be “Blackhole” as it was one of my favorites off the new album. Even without Dan’s drums on the kit (as he candidly shared, a six-week tour wasn’t something he could do right now while prioritizing family), the drums were still solid. The lighting, pacing, and sonic punch made it clear why Architects remain a band you move toward, not just listen to. A show that reminded me why they’ve been in my top-three rotation, and why I’ll be there for the next one, too.
