Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

Trousdale - โ€œAny Day Nowโ€

Trousdale release new single, โ€œAny Day Now,โ€ an indie-folk song to transport you to the early 2000s indie rise. With notes of folk, country and indie pop, โ€œAny Day Nowโ€ is a sweet and smooth track of all the right parts of music. The vocals are grabbing and flow elegantly with the instrumentals as they pull you in. The instrumentals feel like it was grabbed from a 2000s rom-com film that inspires. Itโ€™s a mellow moving yet cinematic anticipations linger in between. Trousdale has gained comparisons to artists like Kacey Musgraves and boygenius โ€” which hopefully gives you a little taste of what they embody in their sound. โ€œAny Day Nowโ€ is the third single to be released from their upcoming EP What Happiness Is.

Crystal Murray - โ€œToo Much To Tasteโ€

This groovy and intoxicating song will have you up on your feet dancing like there is no tomorrow. โ€œToo Much To Tasteโ€ by Crystal Murray was released on October 14 with an official music video available on youtube. The 2:28 minute song captures the essence of overwhelming exhilaration with its heavy beat and sultry lyrics. Murrayโ€™s expressive vocals pull you into the world of the song, allowing you to let loose and have a taste of fun.

Furrows - โ€œBurialโ€

Written during the peak of COVID-19, in the 2020 winter season, the track โ€œBurialโ€ emits the relatable element of detachment from people and struggling with self-view. In a slow burn of emotions, the simplicity of the trackโ€™s guitar brings attention to the relatable lyrics. The song was released on October 13 as a lead-up to his album, Fisher King, which came out two days later.

Furrows wrote the song as a compilation of how individuals view older versions of themself. Furrows blends a familiar yet unrecognizable feeling of looking back at yourself within the soothing psychedelic rock track.

Oleyada - โ€œDig Yourselfโ€

โ€œDig Yourselfโ€ is OLEYADAโ€™s latest track and we canโ€™t get enough. It has a mellow feel through her vocals and energetically sweet flow through the instrumentals. Itโ€™s a track youโ€™ll play on repeat due to not being able to get it out of your head. The track was created during OLEYADAโ€™s annual rewatch of The OC, a song to make Seth Cohen proud and Summer Roberts would love. From the introduction of a nostalgic acoustic guitar to the pop elements throughout, this is a track to fall in love with.

Make Friends - โ€œFeverโ€

Bristol based indie band Make Friends release their brand new track โ€œFeverโ€! A single off their much anticipated EP Is This Real. With the infectious chord progressions and the mind blowing bridge accompanied by the drums and soft vocals that contrast the high energy of the song, the listener is brought on what feels like a cathartic ride of emotions. When asked about the song, the band said, โ€œThe song is about the uncertainty of that period and the internal struggles of deciding whether it was okay to start going back to some form of normality. After being stuck inside for so long, the idea of being able to do the things you love again sounded appealing, but there was a stigma attached to it that made it feel wrong, despite what we were being told." It's an exciting year for the band, with a UK headline tour and the release of their EP โ€œIs This Realโ€โ€”be sure to keep a lookout!

Gemma Laurence - โ€œAdrienneโ€

โ€œAdrienneโ€ is here to slip itโ€™s way into your hearts and your sad playlists. With acoustic elements flowing throughout and sweet and hurting vocals, Gemma Laurenceโ€™s new track is a perfect smooth introduction to her music. After being cooped up on the coast of Maine, Laurence is ready to show what her time with herself has created โ€” a collection of eight songs. โ€œAdrienneโ€ being the first one, the track follows the feeling of a past lover with vulnerability and tenderness all around. It invokes a feeling of longing and nostalgia, looking back at how things were and how things could be. This track not only gets us excited for Laurenceโ€™s upcoming tracks but it truly shows how powerful the rest of the collection will be.

Chloe Lilac - โ€œ19โ€

Bringing in the listener with a smooth guitar flow, Chloe Lilac brings the energy youโ€™ll need to start your week off right. The Brooklyn-based singer touches on life as we know it as a nineteen year old and her experience navigating the pandemic the past year and a half. Highlighitng powerful vocals and killer guitar solos, โ€œ19โ€ has a perfect balance of edge and sweetness. The track gives us further insight into her upcoming mixtape, out November 19.

Lilac notes, โ€œI wrote 19 about how scary everythingโ€™s gotten in the last two years. I really sat and thought about the state of the world and how weird and out of control everythingโ€™s become since the pandemic. I want to stress how grateful I am for my physical health and my familyโ€™s health, Iโ€™ve been very blessed throughout the pandemic thus far. Thereโ€™s just so much loss thatโ€™s been happening and still happening. Itโ€™s really intense, especially being witness to all the tragedy at what seems like the beginning of my adult life."
