Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

Holly Humberstone - “The Walls Are Way Too Thin”

Breakthrough artist Holly Humberstone releases her brand new song, “The Walls Are Way Too Thin”. A song written through a time in her life where she felt lost and unwelcome in her new tiny apartment in London. The feeling of claustrophobia and the fear of small talk amongst her and her roommates made Holly take train rides to avoid it all; where she found herself writing this song. The emotions in the song are blatant, yet hidden with the catchy beat of the song, but the deep, self exploring lyrics reach out to the listener. Feeling off track and not knowing where it is you want to belong is what resonates with Holly’s powerful song.

Scoobert Doobert - “Premadonna”

Dropping the lead single off his new EP ‘A Little Hug,’ Scoobert Doobert drops “Premadonna,” a shining mix of lo-fi pop and hifi accents. Born near San Diego in a small beach town named Encinitas, California, Scoobert Doobert draws much of his inspiration and meaning from the surfing town: effortlessly mixing his melodic flow for his new and old listeners. His whole visual Ep for ‘A Little Hug,’ including “Premadonna,” can be found on his youtube alongside 11 other radiant tracks on the collection. Noting the success of “Can’t imagine feeling better” (Single release for ‘A Little Hug’) and “Premadonna,” Scoobert Doobert should be kept on the lookout for more enjoyable, light-hearted music in the future.

With “Concorde” out, Melby only secures their spot as the most interesting Scandanvian act as their sound is unique with all contributing elements and the notable creative effort put into it that does not go unnoticed. Listen to “Concorde” where you’ll be taken on a smooth and calming ride to your heart’s warmth.

Tim Ayre - “So Long”

With inspirations from The Beach Boys and Todd Rundgren comes singer songwriter Tim Ayre’s groovy new single, “So Long”. The song itself is a farewell statement from the Tim of the present, to his past self. A song about growth and renewal that's fused effortlessly with the combination of the colorful guitar and the smooth break in the middle of the song that meshes it all together to create a lasting impression of letting go. Change comes with shedding off past yous and any baggage that you carry which may seem scary, but “So Long” becomes a security blanket and reassures that its all for the better.

Ginger Root - “Neighbor”

Cameron Lew, the multi-talented mastermind behind the project Ginger Root, is here with his latest track, “Neighbor”. Ginger Root defines his sound as "aggressive elevator soul" and somehow, it fits that description perfectly. The track intertwines the elements of soul, bedroom-pop, and jazzy undertones you can't help but lounge to while enjoying a glass of wine. Reminiscent of bedroom pop acts like Mellow Fellow or even Michael Seyer, yet Ginger Root puts his unique touches. Just in time for the summer, Ginger Root gives a melodic look at what’s in store.
