Vacations - “midwest”

Platinum-selling Australian band Vacations releases emotionally rich new single “Midwest.” With contemplative lyrics and danceable melodies, this is the perfect song to work (or dance) through any tough feelings you’ve harbored over the year. In his first-ever break-up song, Campbell explains that he wanted, “to write something upbeat and fun yet using lyrics I’d reserve for a ballad. A crying in the club type beat, but you’re with your friends, you’re moving on, and everything will be just fine.” Produced by lead singer Campbell Burns and the talented John Velasquez, this track relies on simple production, allowing the vocals and lyrics to shine through.  The Wes Anderson-esque music video,  directed by LA-based Nicole Lipp with creative direction from Vacations’ bassist Jake Johnson, perfectly encapsulates the duality of the “crying in the club type beat.” It is set in a beautiful, yet barren location, with the protagonist dancing and doing mundane tasks such as peeling a clementine and reading a book. Johnson explains, “I've always felt like dance is one of the best ways to express the inner emotional state, and framing that around a phone box, this outdated and difficult form of distance communication, was really fun.” We at Luna will be dancing to this song all summer long.
