The Grogans - “I Cannot Read Your Mind”

Listeners who have attended a show by The Grogans in the past year might recognize their latest release, “I Cannot Read Your Mind.” Guitar-driven and ablaze with powerful drums, the track communicates the vexation that comes from miscommunication, or no communication at all: “You never thought I cared about you, but I do / I cannot read your mind.” Changing colors and spastic video effects in the music video mirror the track’s vigorous sound. It also shows the Australian band jamming in the studio and on the road, bringing all feelings of frustration back to the music.

Close Drive - “Bed Head”

Philadelphia has a new gem in the indie rock sphere with four piece band Close Drive, and their latest single “Bed Head” pulls the listener into their sonic world. The “Bed Head” release is coupled with an ethereal music video set in the mountains, easily coupling the mystic and breezy energy of the track itself while starring lead singer Brandon Higgins. As one commenter on the video remarked, the song and video combination reminds me of Goth Babe in all the best ways. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Close Drive, and if the DIY nature of “Bed Head” is any indicator, we’re in for a shining star of indie rock.

Alex Helsby - “Are What You said You Aren’t”

Alex Helsby's "Are What You Said You Aren't" is a poignant introspection wrapped in a melodic embrace. At just 20 years old, the British artist channels his emotions into a musical refuge, and it's palpable in this track. The raw vulnerability of Helsby's vocals pairs seamlessly with the gentle melodic backdrop, creating an intimate atmosphere that resonates with anyone who's faced tumultuous emotions. "Are What You Said You Aren't" is not just a song; it's a heartfelt confession that reassures us that pain is transient, and growth is our constant companion.
