INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW

☆ BY FAITH LUEVANOS

INSPIRED BY THE GLITZ AND GLAMOUR OF OLD HOLLYWOOD – Alexa Dark is a creative visionary who not only expresses herself through music but also through fashion and modeling. She has created a dark pop world of noir throughout her entire discography, birthing a cult following of fans who are inspired by her elegance and art.

Her recent single, “Cheers to Another Bender,” retells the days following the end of a relationship, a period which Dark describes felt “very glamorous, loud, and chaotic, but underneath, there was this loneliness, pain, and darkness I couldn’t shake.”

The Luna Collective received the opportunity to chat with Alexa Dark on how she developed her brand, the story behind “Cheers to Another Bender,” her future creative endeavors, and more. Read the full interview below.

LUNA: Your style is very old Hollywood glamour. Are there any specific stars from this time that have inspired you?

ALEXA DARK: I love old Hollywood stars like Lauren Bacall and Ava Gardner—I find their timeless glamour and elegance endlessly inspiring, both in how I dress and move through the world.

LUNA: You started performing as a teenager in London. What would you tell your younger self about where you are now?

ALEXA DARK: I’d tell her to trust her instincts and stay true to her voice. To make the art she wants to make, no matter how messy or strange or vulnerable it feels.

LUNA: Your recent release, "Cheers to Another Bender," is a dark and dangerous anthem. Can you share your story behind it?

ALEXA DARK: “Cheers to Another Bender” came from late nights in Hollywood, running from heartbreak, chasing a high. That period of time felt very glamorous, loud, chaotic, but underneath, there was this loneliness, pain, and darkness I couldn’t shake. That duality is what I wanted to capture in the song, being inside of a party, yet feeling heartbroken and alone.

LUNA: What do you love the most about performing and being an artist in general?

ALEXA DARK: Stepping on stage feels like slipping into a dream version of myself, but it’s also the most honest I ever am. As an artist, I get to take things like heartbreak, memories, and fantasy and turn them into something tangible. Music lets me romanticize, rewrite endings, or tell the truth in ways I never could in real life.

LUNA: How do you blend fashion and music to create your brand?

ALEXA DARK: They’re part of the same story for me. What I wear, how I perform, what I write—it’s all part of building a world. Fashion is integral to that world.

LUNA: Are there any creative mediums that you'd like to dip into that you haven't already?

ALEXA DARK: I’d love to explore more filmmaking or directing. I already creatively direct my visuals and projects—and when I write a song or compose music, I picture it like a movie, with particular lighting, characters, atmosphere, etc. I’ve always been obsessed with cinema—especially French New Wave and noir—and eventually, I’d love to create something larger that ties all of that together.

LUNA: What can fans expect to see from you in the near future?

ALEXA DARK: I’m at the start of a new chapter, with a lot of new releases and performances I’m so excited to share.

LUNA: What message would you like to give your fans who are reading this?

ALEXA DARK: Thank you for stepping into this world with me. If the songs have made you feel seen, understood, or like the main character in your own movie, that means everything to me.
