DAISY WORLD BROUGHT THE SWEET ENERGY TO CAMP FLOG GNAW THE CROWD CRAVED - and served as a perfect way to start the Sunday of the festival. Daisy World, the multifaceted LA-based artist, has re-emerged with her highly anticipated debut solo album, TOOTHPICK, set to release on February 2, 2024. Prior to her Flog Gnaw performance, we caught up with Daisy to learn about her return to the stage, the creative process behind her latest single, and the transformative journey reflected in TOOTHPICK.
After a hiatus since her last performance in 2019, Daisy expressed her elation at being back on stage for her first solo set. "I'm thrilled to be here, especially for my first solo set, which has been a dream. It's my only show of the year." She shared with palpable excitement. The audience's positive energy and the absence of judgment created a perfect atmosphere for Daisy's return.
Daisy provided some context into her latest single, "break it off”. She shared that the song, written swiftly after a transformative date, holds a significant place in her heart. "I wrote this one morning after my second and final date with a guy who wasn't looking for the same kind of relationship as me," Daisy explained.
As Daisy gears up for the release of TOOTHPICK, she delved into the album's essence and its role in her artistic evolution. "TOOTHPICK taught me how to believe in myself, in my vision, and in all the sounds that I hear in my head," Daisy shared. The album, self-produced alongside Albert Jairo Gordon and Matt Emonson, explores a more mature version of Daisy, reflecting on lessons learned and personal growth. "It's about finally having the courage and confidence to make big and spooky changes in my life, jumping off the cliff and trusting that I would land (semi) gracefully," she elaborated.
Born into the Los Angeles music scene, Daisy's creativity extends beyond her solo career. She's made notable contributions to projects like Steve Lacy's Grammy-nominated album Apollo XXI and Tyler, The Creator's Grammy-winning CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. Daisy's eclectic artistic journey includes being the frontwoman of the beloved band DAISY and making waves as a visual artist.
As TOOTHPICK marks Daisy World's solo debut, it promises to be a unique blend of transparent storytelling, evolving melodies, and a vibrant intersection of genres. With Daisy's heart worn on her sleeve, each note and lyric serves as a testament to her growth and the profound experiences that shaped her journey.
The album release will be celebrated with a headline show at The Roxy in Los Angeles on February 2, 2024, offering fans a live experience of Daisy World's introspective and genre-defying musicality.
