☆ BY FAITH LUEVANOS ☆
LONDON-BASED RAPPER AND LABEL FOUNDER—Deca OTA explores sin and faith in his latest project, The Human Condition, out now on all streaming platforms. Deca pours his religious faith and trust into this album, using his beliefs as the foundation for his career.
The Human Condition highlights Deca’s journey towards self-enlightenment through a vast range of musical textures and soundscapes. Songs like “Hallelujah” mix quick beats with cascading strings, while others like “Ceaseless” hold more of an R&B/hip-hop sound.
Beyond Deca’s honest lyricism, his voice becomes the focal point on first listen. He carries a certain gravity that pulls the listener forward, commanding their attention.
Aside from music making, Deca is also the founder of Free Imprint / OTA Recordings, his own label and collective that focuses on creative freedom and artist development.
The Luna Collective received the opportunity to chat with Deca OTA about The Human Condition, his sources of inspiration, his thoughts on collaboration, and more. Read the full interview below.
LUNA: First of all, congratulations on the release of The Human Condition. What does this new project symbolize for you?
DECA: The Human Condition symbolizes honesty and truth for me. It’s an exploration of the shared struggle we all face as humans: the reality of sin, brokenness, doubt and temptation. This project is a confession and a mirror, but also a testimony of redemption. It acknowledges that none of us are exempt from falling short, yet all of us are offered grace through Christ.
LUNA: You have a beautiful way of blending smooth beats with powerful lyrics and melodies. How did you come into your sound?
DECA: My sound came from lived experience rather than chasing trends. I’ve always been drawn to smooth, emotional production, but I needed the lyrics to carry depth and meaning. Over time, my faith, personal growth, and the lessons I’ve learned have shaped the way I create. I let my story and my convictions guide the sound naturally.
LUNA: Who or what are some sources of inspiration for your musical journey?
DECA: Life is my biggest inspiration. My walk with God, my past mistakes, the people around me and the stories we often keep hidden. I’m inspired by vulnerability and truth in music, but above all, my greatest inspiration is Christ. His grace and sacrifice continue to fuel everything I create.
LUNA: What was the most challenging part of the process for this project? What was the most rewarding?
DECA: The most challenging part was being fully honest and vulnerable. This project forced me to confront uncomfortable truths about myself and let go of my ego. The most rewarding part was the freedom that came from that honesty, and knowing the music could help others feel seen and understood.
LUNA: Since your first release in 2021, what have been the key lessons you've learned about music throughout the years?
DECA: I’ve learned that authenticity matters more than perfection, and that patience is essential. Growth takes time, and alignment is everything. When my heart, purpose, and art are aligned, the music carries more weight and longevity.
LUNA: You created your own label, Free Imprint / OTA Recordings. Has operating your own label changed or helped the way you make music?
DECA: Operating Free Imprint / OTA Recordings has given me creative freedom and accountability. It allows me to make music without compromise while building something bigger than myself. It’s not just a label, it’s a collective rooted in purpose, and that independence has strengthened my confidence in my vision.
LUNA: You have a couple of different collaborations on the album. What do you love or appreciate the most about collaboration?
DECA: Collaboration reminds me that this journey isn’t meant to be walked alone. Each artist brought their own story and perspective, which expanded the message of the project. Different voices, different experiences, but the same human condition and the same God.
LUNA: Is there a song on the album that you feel the most connected to or drawn to? Why?
DECA: "Baptised" is the song I feel most connected to. It introduces Az, the character that represents all of us, and sets the spiritual foundation for the entire project. It captures surrender, rebirth, and the moment where everything begins to change.
LUNA: What's next for you?
DECA: The next stage for me is to get more music out with my collective Free Imprint. There are many artists in The Imprint who have a lot to deliver in 2026. I can’t say too much, but it will be great. And as always, the mission remains the same: to steward the gift God gave me and use it for His glory.
