Q&A: Molly Grace on Blush, Queer Joy and Becoming Pop’s Next Showgirl

INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW

NASHVILLE’S RESIDENT RISING POP STAR MOLLY GRACE is stepping into her spotlight with dazzling force. Known for her powerhouse vocals, theatrical live shows, and magnetic stage presence, she’s quickly becoming a name you don’t want to miss. Whether it’s commanding festival crowds at Bonnaroo or bringing inclusive joy to Pride stages across the country, Molly has built a reputation for making every performance feel like both a celebration and a safe space.

Now, with the release of her debut album Blush, Molly is ushering in a new chapter of her artistry - one that’s bold, playful, and deeply personal. The record is a kaleidoscope of emotions, from flirty confidence to raw vulnerability, tied together by Molly’s signature humor and heart. Collaborating with producers Keith Sorrells, Oscar Linnander, and a roster of powerhouse songwriters including Wrabel, she’s polished Blush into a radiant, genre-blending showcase that feels tailor-made for both radio and the stage.

Beyond the music itself, Molly is crafting a visual and emotional world around Blush inspired by showgirls, burlesque, and cabaret - channeling glamour, drama, and unapologetic queer joy. Singles like “Do Me (Feels So Good)” and “Mad At Her Forever” shimmer with playful charisma, while tracks like “Soft” and “Heaven Sent” reveal her more introspective, soul-baring side. It’s this balance of glitter and grit that makes Blush such a striking introduction to who Molly Grace is, both as an artist and as a person.

But for Molly, it’s about more than just the music. Her work continues through her partnership with LIFEBEAT and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, connecting her artistry to causes close to her community. “I feel like my purpose is to make music that makes people feel good and confident and understood,” she says. With Blush, Molly Grace is proving that pop can be both empowering and effervescent — a world where everyone is invited to feel seen, celebrated, and ready to dance.

LUNA: This is your debut album - congrats! What does Blush represent to you as both an artist and a person right now?

MOLLY GRACE: Thank you so much! Blush feels like the curtain rising on the artist I’ve been working on becoming the last few years. I’m so proud of this record as a songwriter, a vocalist, and a performer.

LUNA: The word blush can mean so many different things - flirty, embarrassed, glowing. How did you land on that as the central theme?

MOLLY GRACE: You get it!! I’m such a lovergirl – I am so inspired by romance when I’m songwriting. Blush felt like it encompassed so many of the themes on this record – heartbreak, lust, crushes… I also tend to be a girl who sees the world through rose-colored glasses… with a blush tint, if you will. Blush swirls it all together seamlessly.

LUNA: You worked with Keith Sorrells, Oscar Linnander, Claire Ernst, and Wrabel on this project. What was that creative process like, and how did they help bring your vision to life?

MOLLY GRACE: I am so lucky to have worked with so many incredible creatives on Blush. My cowriters and producers brought so much excellence and craft to the room – helping me sculpt my big ideas & feelings into catchy pop songs. I feel like I’ve grown so much as a writer through spending time with them.

LUNA: Your singles “Mad At Her Forever,” “Do Me (Feels So Good),” “Heaven Sent,” and now “Soprano” all feel distinct but tied together. How did you approach curating the album’s sound?

MOLLY GRACE: I appreciate that so much. I feel like I used to get really bogged down about genre. I wanted my work to be sonically cohesive. But I’ve actually let go of that boundary – I think my music sounds cohesive because it’s all my voice, both in a literal sense and in a songwriting sense. I had so much fun playing with genres on this record – it’s all pop goodness, but some songs lean more funk, soul, R&B, and even gospel! It’s really fun to get to explore all of my different influences in my voice.

LUNA: You’ve cited influences ranging from Prince’s magnetism to the queer joy of Chappell Roan. How do you channel those inspirations while still keeping your music uniquely you?

MOLLY GRACE: I just try not to overthink it. I am so inspired by Prince’s charisma, by how Chappell walks in her queerness, by Sabrina Carpenter’s cheekiness… I take what I’m drawn to and I just do it in my own way. What does queerness look like on me? How can I incorporate my sense of humor in my lyricism? How can I walk in my confidence on stage?

LUNA: The album is bright, theatrical, and draws from showgirls and cabaret aesthetics. Can you share a little about the visual world you’re creating around Blush?

MOLLY GRACE: Thank you!! I am so inspired by burlesque, disco, and old Hollywood. All of the show girls of the entertainment industries past. Obviously I love the color, pink, as well. :) I grew up in theatre, so I’m really drawn to the dramatics of those aesthetics.

LUNA: You’ve already played Pride festivals, Bonnaroo, and toured with Betty Who. How are you leveling up the live show for your own headline Blush tour?

MOLLY GRACE: Visually, it’s going to be a level-up. I’m really excited about the fashion for this tour, specifically. When I do an opening set or a festival set, they’re usually shorter, so I try to keep to the most upbeat songs. For a headline show, I get to slow it down for acoustic moments, power ballads… the show is going to be really dynamic and entertaining to watch

LUNA: The tour is partnering with LIFEBEAT and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. Why was it important for you to connect your music with this cause?

MOLLY GRACE: LIFEBEAT and ETAF are such incredible organizations. This is the second tour I’ve worked on with them. I care so much about my queer community & these organizations do such excellent work for us. It’s a no brainer to include them!

LUNA: You’ve been praised for inclusivity and optimism on stage. What do you hope fans walk away feeling after seeing you live?

MOLLY GRACE: I hope fans leave a Molly Grace show feeling empowered and like they just had the time of their lives! We keep it fun over here.

LUNA: What intentions do you have for this fall season?

MOLLY GRACE: It’s gonna be a busy one! My intention is to be present in craziness and excitement and to push myself a little more every day to become a stronger performer and artist :) I also intend to get good at the splits.
