HONING IN ON WHAT IT TRULY MEANS TO BE AN ARTIST - Revenge Wife is taking her career to new heights, all on her own. Finding success in duo HOLYCHILD, Revenge Wife has embraced the freedom and opportunities her solo project has brought her. Upon making her way to Austin, Texas for this year’s SXSW, Revenge Wife showcased just how special her performances really are.

After finding a group of local dancers on Craigslist, Revenge Wife worked ahead to choreograph a full dance routine for her performances for the week. Attendees of any Revenge Wife show quickly realized they were in for a treat, and this was no ordinary Pop show.

With new music, a new video and shows all on the radar, Revenge Wife is sure to catch your eyes and ears. We got a chance to chat with the artist after one of her SXSW shows to hear how about this year’s festival, the evolution of her live performance and more.

LUNA: Welcome to SXSW! How is this week treating you so far?

REVENGE WIFE : Honestly, it's been really fun. I didn't really know what to expect. The show that we just played was so fun, I’m so grateful and I’ll remember it forever.

LUNA: What value do you feel like SXSW has for both for you as an artist and the industry as a whole?

REVENGE WIFE: It’s super inspiring, there's the branded aspect of SXSW but beyond that, it's just like a convention for people who are obsessed with music. So I love that. SXSW has such a place in my heart because I came in 2011 and that was when I didn't realize there were other people who were just as obsessed with music as me. I went back into 2014 and 2015 and played with my other projects. My other project HOLYCHILD got signed with, CMJ which is kind of a SXSW equivalent that used to happen in New York. Now I'm doing this without any representation, label or anything.

LUNA: How’s this year compared to those previous times?

REVENGE WIFE: It’s really different. My experience as a musician is really interesting, because it's kind of backwards. Within two years of starting HOLYCHILD, we went viral and had label deals and the whole thing- it was really fast. By the time I got signed, I had only done like, 10 shows in my life.

So it’s really different now, I'm setting everything up myself this time. This year’s SXSW is way more chill and not like before when I had no time for myself. I'm having a good time this year.

LUNA: It’s very clear you put a lot of time and thought into your aspect between your outfits and dancers. What was your creative process when figuring out show like this, especially when you might have limitations like a small stage?

REVENGE WIFE: It’s all been a really evolutionary thing. It really started where because of the classic, “music industry doesn't pay anything so you have to figure out to do how to do a really cheap show,” I toured the UK last year opening for Kate Nash and I just had my track, London came around and I knew I had to do something different. I got like 10 different girls just to come on and just kinda dance and vibe. I felt like at least having that energy, amped-up the performance beyond just my tracks.  From there, I've kind of been experimenting. I did a New York show with dancers and drums, and did a LA show with dancers, drums, bass. For my shows here I cast the girls from Austin, flew in a few days ahead and had two rehearsals and did our first show right after.

LUNA: What’s next for you?

REVENGE WIFE: I’m trying to be pretty open. I have some shows in LA and NYC, maybe a festival. I'm actively releasing music and I definitely want to be smart about how I do it. I’m thinking of maybe doing less shows and focus on releasing the music. I’m working on a music video as well and will have a remix for that coming out at the end of the month too!
