REVIEW: Andrea Bejar Enchants On New Single, “Te Vas A Arrepentir (Don’t Hurt Him)”

A FRESH AND LUMINOUS VOICE—Whether it’s your first time hearing Andrea Bejar or you’re already familiar with her music, pressing play on the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter is a treat. Billboard has already described her as “a haunting, sweet voice that she’s married to ethereal songs” and that feeling only deepens as she prepares to release her debut album, In Bloom, on October 2.
So far, Bejar has already shared a taste of what’s to come on In Bloom with singles “Petrichor” and “Delicately,” two songs that showcase her range in indie and Latin folk, but language as well as she sings in English and Spanish. That versatility continues with her newly released third single, “Te Vas A Arrepentir (Don’t Hurt Him).” Written with Mexican artist Arath Herce, the song explores the details of a relationship falling apart, and its creation can only be described as seamless.
In discussing “Te Vas A Arrepentir (Don’t Hurt Him)” and working with Herce, Bejar shares, “We wrote that song in about two hours on the day that we met for the first time. Arath is not only one of the best artists making music today, but also a lovely human. It was really awesome to work with him.”
“Te Vas A Arrepentir (Don’t Hurt Him)” is a dreamy Latin-folk track, and its music video is even more enchanting. Bejar alternates between singing on a stage at a bar and at a dining table placed in a wide-open field, and as she sings and dances amongst flora, she opens up and shares her heart. It’s that openness she has shared since the first single that will no doubt carry through when the rest of the album arrives, making it a debut to remember.
