NYC-BASED ARTIST BLKSMIITH RETURNS WITH HIS LATEST EXPERIMENT AND ALBUM—NEW TYPE, a genre-defying inside look into Blksmiith’s recent sources of inspiration: movement, nightlife and lived experience. This album marks an exciting new chapter for the East Coast DJ/producer as he transitions from his original ambient works into something new, something intended for the dancefloor.
His first release back in May 2020 came shortly after the world went into lockdown due to the pandemic, and, like many others, Blksmiith found the light in the darkness through musical worldbuilding. But, also like many others, he realized that music is meant to be shared and meant to be experienced in person within a community of people. His music acts as a portal, one any listener can step through and be immediately transported into a world of clarity, introspection and peace.
As we flash forward to today, Blksmiith is stepping outside of himself and his world with NEW TYPE. Each song on the 12-track album is imbued with an unwavering amount of positive energy that acts as an anchor, marking a creative evolution that trades introspection for connection without sacrificing the emotional depth that has long defined his artistry.
When I listen to this album, I envision dancing with my friends in a warehouse that’s filled with flashing lights, listening through my headphones as I walk through the streets of a new city or simply being at home and using it as my background soundtrack. Needless to say, there is something within this album for everyone, and that truly is the beauty of it. “This album blends tracks that not only work on the dancefloor but also provides a curated vibe for your home, apartment or car ride; wherever your happy place is. I explored a more minimal sound, but still kept that heavy ambience my music is known for,” shared Blksmiith. There isn’t one singular feeling that the album is trying to evoke—it’s meant for every setting and every shared moment.
