CHLOE QISHA SHOWS A NEW FACET WITH THE RELEASE OF “YDH”—a fairytale track that retains Qisha’s charm and humor. This is the second single after the disco pop anthem “So Sad So Hot,” and it shows the artist’s versatility while she keeps her sound recognizable. “YDH” stands for “young, dumb, horny,” three themes which encapsulate Qisha’s discography.

“Once there was a girl / Who had a very sexy dream” are the introductory lyrics as an orchestra plays in the background. The synth that became Qisha’s signature joins the production. Her vocals are slowed down and dreamy as she recounts the dream she had surrounding a crush.

“‘YDH’ was written in one joy-filled, jet-lagged day. It was the perfect reset for a very stressful year and it reminded me that this next project is about chasing fun,” Qisha says. “The song taps into that feral, fairytale kind of attraction, the all-consuming crush that makes you reckless, invested, and a little dramatic. It’s one of the fantasies I’ll be dipping into for this next project. I want people to let their hair down and step into full princess mode. This song was made for hootin’ and hollerin’ in the shower, at home with your cats, on a night out—wherever.”

It feels magical as a modern fairytale, with the music video showing Qisha dressed as a princess, yearning for a handsome man from a window—one that has her picture in a locket for safekeeping. She combines modernism with classical as she runs through the streets of today’s London with her royal-dressed friends.

The charm lies in the production which would warrant Shakespearean language, yet Qisha’s modern plume takes over and creates an atmosphere that is wholeheartedly her. With humorous lines such as “Clutching my pearls at the thought of his… personality,” she brings a smile upon the listener’s face.

The rhythm speeds up to create an anthemic pop dance song that is reminiscent of previous tracks such as “So Sad So Hot” and “I Lied, I’m Sorry.” The chorus is captivating. The sound elevates as she sings “When he struts into the room / All I wanna do is uh-huh uh-huh uh-huh / Can't a girl be / Young, dumb and horny?” then slows back down for the bridge.

Although the lyrics don’t suggest it, the video showcases a celebration of friendship beyond the romance aspect. Qisha is accompanied by her friends at all times, even when she finally encounters the man of her dreams. In the end, “YDH” is an ode to having fun and treasuring the people around you—whether romantic, sexual or platonic.
