CHICAGO’S VERY BEST, FRIKO, PLAYED A SOLD-OUT METRO LAST WEEKEND in celebration of their newly released album, Something Worth Waiting For. The local legends have been steadily growing since the release of their debut album, Where we’ve been, Where we go from here, in 2024. The album put them on the map, with many major music magazines, including Pitchfork, calling it one of the best albums of 2024. Something Worth Waiting For seems to be following a similar path, with critics already praising its ingenuity and digression from the classic alternative genre.

Fans also certainly seem to be loving it, as the line outside of the venue on release day was unlike any I’ve ever seen for a local act. Before the opening band even went on stage, the house was already packed to the absolute brim with fans, friends, and family from all around the Chicago area. I’ve seen Friko many times, and yet I always underestimate how amazing they are to see live. Their set was full of passion, raw energy, and love, escorting the crowd on the journey of their new album’s sonic storytelling. This show will most definitely be on my “favorites of the year” list. The group will be heading on a nice and lengthy run of U.S. dates this fall, and they are an absolute “DO NOT MISS” act. Listen to Something Worth Waiting For, take it from me when I say that the album was certainly something worth waiting for after the last two years of Friko-release-absence!
