ICE CUBE’S 4 DECADES OF ATTITUDE TOUR stop in Oakland was an honor to cover, given Ice Cube’s status in the Hip-Hop/Rap game. Being able to witness him live was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, given where he is in his career 40 years later. With no opener—a move that felt bold but absolutely fitting—he went straight to business, hitting the stage without delay. While it’s unusual for a tour of this size to skip support acts, it was refreshing to walk into the arena and immediately get the artist you came to see. Cube wasted no time, pulling the crowd into his catalog of classics and newer cuts with an intensity that showed why he doesn’t need anyone to warm up the room for him.

The night’s standout moment came when he brought out Eazy-E’s son, a nod that tied the performance back to Cube’s roots and legacy in N.W.A. The crowd roared as history and lineage collided onstage, bridging past and present in a way few artists can. With no frills or filler, just raw storytelling and an unapologetic attitude, Ice Cube proved he can still command a stage on his own terms. Forty years in, Oakland got the show it came for—and nothing less.
