TRIO QUARTERS HAS RETURNED WITH TWO NEW SINGLES—ahead of the announcement of their third studio album, set to release in the spring of next year. Quarters, formerly known as Quarters of Change, consistently brings a fresh new sound with their music, pairing heavy drum rhythms with gritty vocals, but this time, in their two new singles, “STAR” and “PLUMMET,” the band is beginning to leave the indie-rock scene behind as they transition fully into a rock band.

All born and raised in New York City, Attila Anrather (drums), Jasper Harris (guitar, bass, synths), and Ben Roter (vocals, guitar) came together in their adolescence as childhood friends. Their first release as a band was in 2018, and their friendship and passion for music have been the driving force for their success. Alongside their notable name change, this rebranding also marks the start of a new sonic era for the band.

In their first new single, “STAR,” listeners can hear the band’s familiar sound, but this time, we can hear years of the band’s sonic evolution in those three minutes and 15 seconds. The sheer maturity of “STAR,” in its production and lyricism especially, ignites a newfound excitement in me for Quarters’ new chapter. It’s gripping. It’s compelling. It’s fresh rock music from a new generation. As someone whose life revolved around rock/pop punk growing up, it’s easy to say that Quarters is a band that’s revitalizing the rock sound and breaking down walls that limit them to one genre.

Their second single, “PLUMMET,” is heavier, louder, and unlike anything fans have heard from the band before. There were hints of this sound on their previous album, Portraits, but now, we hear it full force and unapologetically. The heavy drums and electrifying guitar licks bring the entire song together, while Roter’s vocals complement the production with a sense of rage and despair.

Already eager to get back on the road, Quarters will be heading out on their North American tour beginning in Boston on March 13 and ending in Gainesville, FL on April 10. You can find tickets to see Quarters in a city near you here. “STAR/PLUMMET” is out everywhere now.
