REMEMBER THE FEELING OF SITTING IN A PACKED THEATER AS THE CREDITS ARE ROLLING—and the speakers are blasting a song that leave you exhilarated as you process what you’ve just seen? Reneé Rapp sure knows how to create the memorable track that plays as the credits roll and elevates the experience.
This isn’t the first time that Rapp has released a song to close the soundtrack of an anticipated movie. Her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion on “Not My Fault” for Mean Girls (2024) which Rapp starred in as Regina George amassed an astounding success. After releasing two record-breaking albums, Snow Angel and Bite Me, she remains consistent in her voice.
“Lucky” begins with a guitar part that immediately marks it as her distinct sound—it is no wonder, since she’s worked on it with her long-time producer Alexander 23—and leads us into her world. The beat is addicting, with the chorus persisting long after hearing it for the first time. The synth added later on brings a touch of novelty.
The track precedes the release of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t the third installment in the Now You See Me franchise. The sequel sees the four original protagonists played by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Isla Fisher return to expose the corruption of a diamond heiress, played by Rosamund Pike, in what will be their most magical adventure yet.
Rapp brings the energy of a 2000s iconic soundtrack while at the same time infusing it with an air of modernity. What makes “Lucky” charming is how it fits with the persona she’s curated, with the bridge putting a smile on your face with the line “Okay, got my way, it’s almost like I’m Reneé.” Her interpretation brings forth her talent as an actress and performer as she makes her personality shine at the same time as she reflects the atmosphere of the magic-fueled heist.
