SINGER/SONGWRITER SOLYA DIDN’T SAY MUCH FROM THE STAGE— of Metro Music Hall on her Queen of Texas tour, but one message packed a punch.

“I’ve spent my entire life looking for answers in somebody else, but I’ve come to realize only I have the answers,” she said while tuning her guitar during her show on September 29.

Approximately 350 fans showed up on a Tuesday night to watch the indie rock sensation bring her mesmerizing vocals to Salt Lake City. Beneath the dancing lights reflected by a disco ball, Solya captivated audience members with an hour-long set comprising 16 songs from her debut album, Queen of Texas, and some earlier fan favorites like “Butterfly” and “Tear Me Apart.”

The Salt Lake show was among the last on the current tour to promote her debut album, Queen of Texas. The 20-year-old multi-instrumentalist got her start releasing music from her bedroom and has clearly established a loyal following. Utah fans clustered to the front of the stage, knowing exactly how to sing along and nail their parts when Solya pointed to the crowd to fill in.

With vocals reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, Solya’s moody live show is a vibe all of its own. The crowd was there for the chill, completely content to let Solya transport them into a world chock-full of feeling. The experience was comparable to earlier Phoebe Bridgers shows, when the world had yet to discover her and being among the crowd felt special.

Salt Lake City’s show proved not only that Solya’s debut album translates beautifully to the stage but perhaps, more importantly, that the artist is definitely one to watch. The takeaway was pretty clear: catch the small shows while you can.
