THE ACES’ GOLD STAR BABY TOUR IS AN INVITATION TO THE MOST GLITTERING CLUB—and Minneapolis got first access. Their stop at Fine Line on November 4 proved they know exactly how to put on a show; the moment Cristal Ramirez strutted onstage to the intro of “Welcome to Gold Star Baby,” the band wasted no time turning the venue into a Friday night disco-pop fever dream on a regular weeknight.
Opening act Lydia Night of The Regrettes started the evening off with a solo set, showcasing a bit of brattiness and vulnerability. She balanced her honest lyrics with punk-infused confidence and her rock version of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” brought the crowd to life, especially when she asked “Who’s gay here?” and the room responded in kind. It was the perfect prelude for what was to come next.
The Aces launched straight into “Jealous” off of their new album and the album title track “Gold Star Baby.” Throughout the night, their chemistry was clear as it always has been. Ramirez’s powerhouse vocals, the group’s effortless rhythm and the glow on their faces were unforgettable. The disco-club narrative truly shined through and came alive through transitions and crowd moments; the band brought out shots for a lucky fan dressed head-to-toe in glitter, called their audience their “gold stars,” and continued to keep the crowd on their feet.
Set highlights included my personal favorite off of the new album, “Twin Flame,” the catchy groove of “She Likes Me,” and a brand-new track called “Square One,” with Ramirez encouraging the audience to chant the lyrics “F*ck you and your girlfriend.” Along with newer material, they also sang fan favorites like “Girls Make Me Wanna Die,” “Volcanic Love,” and even “I Can Break Your Heart Too,” which was a personal high for me.
By the time they closed with “Stuck,” the crowd was fully on their feet dancing and feeling starstruck. What makes The Aces so magnetic isn’t just the gleaming pop sound of their new tracks or their sapphic charm, but it’s also the sense of community they’ve built over these past years. Gold Star Baby is a universe where joy, queerness, and just being yourself truly shines through, and for one night in Minneapolis, fans had that opportunity.
The Aces are on tour in the US through December 7. They will also be in the UK/EU in early 2026 and back in the US opening for Louis Tomlinson next summer.
