REVIEW: Tyde Catches Sunlight in a Bottle on New EP ‘SUMMER TYME’

FOR TYDE, SUMMER ISN’T OVER YET—On his fifth EP, the Leicester-native R&B musician takes a sharp turn into relaxation and fun, but leaves traces of his trademark confessional, symphonic soundscape for loyal fans.

Tyde has had quite the year. Between promotions and performances, it’s a mystery how the singer is doing it all. Yet, just three months after the arrival of a major project, he’s back with a mellow, hypnotic EP titled SUMMER TYME, out now.

In a recent interview with TMRW Magazine, the Britain-based artist shared how much he’s learned since the release of his first EP, Words Off My Chest, in 2023. Since then, he’s made an effort to let his creative process flow naturally and “take himself less seriously,” which is pleasantly evident upon giving SUMMER TYME a listen.

SUMMER TYME’s title implies the EP is filled with songs that are literally about summer. Interestingly, what you get is much more complex: a tracklist that brings you back to bonfires by the ocean and late night cigarettes in the park through vibes alone. From vulnerable, moody Trapsoul tracks like “tally up” to upbeat, Khalid-esque cuts like “say something!,” SUMMER TYME has something for everyone.

Tyde’s musical style has evolved, creating an eclectic collection of songs that each have a strong enough foundation to stand on their own. The record’s harmonious blend of complimentary genres captures a snapshot of what happens when an innovative and daring artist gets lost in his creations.

SUMMER TYME and the “tally up” music video are both out now.
