SUPPLYING ICY FLOWS OVER TRAP BEATS —  Scuti’s music is somehow both chill and hype at the same time. Her background in music begins at a young age, giving her the opportunity to keep aiming higher. Family and friends are her foundation, supplying her with the tools and inspiration behind her work. From her older SoundCloud tracks to her most recent release, “L’argent,” we can see that Scuti has always been hard at work, with her eyes on the prize.

“I recorded my first song when I was 10 or 11,” Scuti states, speaking on the early days of her musical journey. The UK rap artist was brought into the studio by her uncle, who is now her manager — it's always been a family affair. Gaining wisdom from her family, Scuti developed a solid work ethic early on. I was writing before that, but it wasn't good enough yet … my dad and my uncle used to rap,” she explains. “They told me ‘Yeah, it’s good, but you need to have at least 16 bars for it to count as a song.’”

As she grew as an artist, Scuti was exposed to a wide range of music: “I listened to everything growing up — literally,” she explains. “I was around different parts of my family that listened to different stuff: Reggae, gospel, house, garage, grime, trap —anything that was out.” Being exposed to so many genres, Scuti would begin to analyze the most popular songs at the time to understand why they were getting so many plays. “For me, for longevity, the melody is the most important. The melody will make you feel. With the beats, if you want the crowd to be pumped, you got to have proper 808s.”

“To make real music you have to live real experiences.”

Her most recent release, “L’argent,” is proof of her evolution, paired with a haunting video starring Scuti herself starring as a mafia leader. When asked how her loved ones inspire her music, Scuti replies, “To make real music, you have to live real experiences. They help me with that; we go through a lot together.”

“All of my friends are doing something,” she elaborates. “We all have goals we are all working to get to. We all know who we wanna be. We’re all like-minded people.”

“L’Argent” was created organically on the first day of recording with producer JD. Coming into the session, Scuti expressed that she didn’t feel like writing that day. So, when the session started, JD flipped through a pack of samples and beats prepared beforehand. The beat we know now as “L’Argent” was stopped by Scuti. “When this one played, it was like I started writing straight away,” she says.

“When I was writing when I was younger,” Scuti explains, “my family would take me to church a lot, and I would write about stuff I don’t even believe in now … I would write music for them.” It wasn’t until age 10 or 11 that Scuti would write the music that she wanted. “When my uncle — the one that manages me — would show me what he was listening to, I would really like it.” Scuti was exposed to trap music, and, inspired heavily by her Uncle, would go on to become the artist she is now.

Although she has come such a long way, Scuti’s favorite song she has released is one that not many have heard from her called “Drop,” released in 2018.

After listening to a lot of the same music, Scuti realized that the best music needs to be vulnerable. Lyrically, she expressed that some songs could be written in one session, while others can come up instantly. It was all dependent on the energy of that day, how she was feeling, and who she was working with. Scuti shared an unreleased track with me titled “Flying,” about the highs and lows of life and everything in between, where she articulates a deeper layer of herself.  Watching Scuti on the come up, we really know how true she is to the ones she loves, to herself, and the “L’argent.” We can expect to hear more from her very soon.
