TERRA IS BECOMING ONE OF THE MOST INTRIGUING ARTISTS IN ELECTRO-POP—After the release of her Fórmula 1 EP put her on the international radar, the Argentinian artist showed she is determined to keep up the momentum with the release of “ESTA NOCHE” and “NUNCA SOLA.” The two singles that serve as a diptych for the end of a relationship when conflicting emotions arise.
Based in Buenos Aires, TERRA finds inspiration in the local art scene which she uplifts with every chance she gets. She began her career in 2022 and pursued a recurring collaboration with Cimarrón. She pointed out her main objective during her European tour was to collaborate with European artists.
The plans came to fruition with “ESTA NOCHE,” which was produced in Berlin with Luca Eck’s futuristic synths. The fast rhythm would make anyone move; TERRA’s vocals draw the listener in for the vulnerable sentiment of wishing to spend one more night with someone you broke up with. “NUNCA SOLA” is more drawn back with the core being the drums imitating a heartbeat. The Argentinian producer Luigi Navarro evoked the sound of 2010s electronic music.
TERRA’s new releases prove she knows what works in terms of inspiration and that living in a state of constant creation might be the answer to perfecting your art. Luna spoke to the artist about her brand new singles, “ESTA NOCHE” and “NUNCA SOLA.”
LUNA: Could you introduce yourself for our readers?
TERRA: My name is TERRA. I'm a singer from Buenos Aires and I make electronic pop music.
LUNA: How did you know that you wanted to pursue music as a career?
TERRA: I always had a very deep love for music, ever since I was a child. During my teen years I was too shy, but by the beginning of my 20s I met a lot of peers that had amazing electronic music projects and I realized that it was something that I could pursue as well.
LUNA: Could you tell us how “ESTA NOCHE” and “NUNCA SOLA” are connected?
TERRA: I made those songs from different points of the world. I made “ESTA NOCHE” with Luca Eck in Berlin, and I made “NUNCA SOLA” with Luigi Navarro in Buenos Aires. I made them a few months apart but somehow I realized when I finished them that they were connected. I think there's something about the sound that both producers were aiming for that sounded to me like nostalgic 2010 electronic music. I felt that there was something about the production of both songs that was really alike. Also, both songs tell a story of heartbreak so to me it made sense to release them together.
LUNA: You collaborated with Luca Eck in Berlin, how did that happen?
TERRA: I knew Luca, especially through their collaboration with Six Sex. I had planned a trip to Europe and I did that trip last year. A very important objective for that trip was to connect and work with producers from Europe and I was really interested in working with Luca. I was very lucky that they were interested and we did a session at Luca’s studio in Berlin and the connection was quite instant. I was really amazed by how the session went because, especially when you work with people you don't know, it can be a little bit hard; but Luca made it so easy.
LUNA: I saw that you were on your first European tour.
TERRA: It was my first time in Europe. I had never been and I felt so lucky that I was getting to know a lot of people from the music scene in Europe. It felt like a big adventure.
LUNA: I wanted to talk about the fact that you released an EP last year, and now these two new singles. Are you in a constant state of creating, or is it that you have so many songs that you feel that you have to make them?
TERRA: I am. I really like making music all the time and not thinking if I'm going to release those songs or not, if they're gonna end up in an EP. That conclusion comes later. I like to stay active and also I think that creativity is a muscle that you have to exercise. It's like going to a gym, you have to keep it going and see where that takes you. Let it surprise you as well. I like being surprised by what happens in the studio.
LUNA: Who are your biggest inspirations when it comes to your music?
TERRA: I take a lot of inspiration from the scene around me. All of my friends are musicians, so I'm very inspired by them. The EP that I released last year, Fórmula 1, has a lot of collaborations. For me, it was a way of honoring a lot of artists from the Buenos Aires scene that have really inspired me. The scene here is very interesting and there are many amazing singers and producers. My main inspiration are my peers.
LUNA: How is it to be an artist from Argentina? I feel like most of the artists we see in mainstream media right now are either from the UK or the United States, mostly California.
TERRA: The art scene here in general, not only speaking about music, is so interesting. It is so inspiring and full of many amazing creative minds. Obviously it's different. I really like to think about how art is not the same if you make a song in Argentina or if you make it from the United States. Art reflects a lot of things from your surroundings and what you go through in your everyday life, but I feel very lucky to be doing art here.
LUNA: If you could summarize your music in three words, what would they be?
TERRA: Narrative, pop and loud.
LUNA: What are your plans for this year?
TERRA: I am working on a new project. I can't say a lot about it yet, but I am very excited. I want to do lots of live shows. I'm gonna be playing Lollapalooza in two weeks. It's my first big festival and I am training a lot for that show. It's going to be pretty special, so I'm also learning a lot. I hope to keep on learning about being a singer.
