BAD TUNER IS BACK AND WANTS TO END 2021 BY INVOKED A FUN, CARE-FREE ENERGY INTO THE WORLD - his latest single, “I CONTACT” is a collaboration with TIN. The track, according to TIN, is a reflection on making an earnest effort to cherish whatever comes.

Last time we chatted, with Brooklyn-based DJ bad tuner was coping with the pandemic. Now, it seems, with the help of TIN he has found a light at the end of another a long year.

TIN is a VIetnamese-American artist and producer who has worked with artists such as Joji, Rich Brian, and Niki. He joined 88rising as the creative director in 2018, and in 2021, he released his DIY debut EP 99CENTDREAMS. TIN brought his personal influence to the creation of “I CONTACT” - “I’ve been interested in platitudes such as ‘live like there’s no tomorrow’ and ‘you only live once’, TIN told us. He is trying to live his life more intentionally to get into the flow state. “Too much time spent wondering about an experience creates anxiety or pessimism”. Instead, he tries to let whatever happens happens and so, the experience becomes meditation.

“We posted up in my bedroom and recorded the vocals and worked on an arrangement”, bad tuner told us. The single was a full collaboration. Initially, the instrumental began between bad turner and Sasha Rome. They sampled some synths and laid down a drum groove; it wasn’t until bad tuner sampled from one of TIN’s other songs that the idea of working on a full original song came up. “It was fun, working on something in person. I haven’t had much opportunity to do that with other songs”, bad tuner says.

Along with their single, the duo released a music video that showcases them simply existing together. bad tuner and TIN shot the video in Fort Tilden, NY. They told us that it was a spontaneous run and gun type shoot, that they both really enjoyed. Upon first glance, the music does not match the video - and, we think that is exactly how it should be. The video takes viewers on an afternoon journey, watching bad tuner and TIN roam around the forest outside of Brooklyn. They hike. They paint. They run along the water.

“It was fun to build a mysterious visual world and focus around some absurd action, place, and time for a song that might seem straightforward on first listen. The contrast helps air out the meaning of the song and opens up more possibilities to understanding its hidden gray areas.” TIN explained.
