For Karin Ann, music has always been the starting point. Now, the singer-songwriter is taking her work into film with Orion, a new EP that marks her first credit as a film composer. The project also introduces her to audiences as an actress, with a supporting role in the sci-fi psychological thriller marking her feature film debut.
The film, which arrived in theaters on Oct. 2, stars Andrew McCarthy, Drew Van Acker and Debby Ryan. Its story follows an astronaut who loses his memory after a crash landing kills the rest of his crew. A NASA interrogator is brought in to help him reconstruct the events, but what starts as a straightforward investigation becomes a much more complicated search for the truth.
The film features all of the songs on Karin’s Orion EP. Having her music woven into the story offers a different way to experience her songwriting, which has largely reached listeners through her own releases. It also gives her the opportunity to work within a visual medium while exploring another creative role on set as Morgan.
The move comes as Karin continues to develop her sound. Her latest single, “all my money,” draws on folk influences to explore impermanence and the relationships that shape our lives. It follows “i was never yours,” which she co-wrote with Suki Waterhouse in 2025. The song reached the Top 35 on Billboard’s AAA Airplay chart, bringing her work more attention on alternative radio.
Karin first introduced herself with through the telescope, a debut album that tackles identity, mental health and human connection. NME praised the record as “a confident and unflinching debut.” Since then, she has continued moving toward a folk and Americana-influenced sound, building on the personal writing that helped establish her as an artist.
With Orion, Karin is adding film scoring and acting to a career that began with songwriting. The project puts her music in front of audiences in a new setting, while her latest releases show that she is still developing her own sound outside of film. As artists increasingly find opportunities across different creative fields, Karin’s latest move shows how a music career can grow beyond the recording studio.
